Make sure CRO understands project scope.
Date: May 2, 2014
Service Description
Proof-of-principle study involved animal xenograft study. The study looked at the effect of various doses of our test compound on survival of mice implanted with human cancer cells. Several groups of mice were used and standard chemotherapy was compared with our product.
What Went Well
We were very pleased with the quality of the initial quotation which outlined all the aspects of the study and suggested a few improvements in design. The budget was reasonable. The study started on time and was concluded on schedule. The results of the study allowed us to move our compound into further pre-clinical development.
What Could Be Improved
We had very few issues with the execution of the project. The staff was competent and the study Report fairly comprehensive. I will definitely use Charles River for future studies.
Lessons Learned from the Experience
The most critical aspect in working with the CRO is a clear understanding of the project scope and the responsibilities of each party. Fortunately we did not have any unexpected events to deal with. However, having contingency plans for such events is very important.
