Service Description

Provided a portal cannulated rat model for discovery PK. We wanted to purchase cannulated rats to avoid having to conduct surgery in house. Treatment and PK analysis would have been done in house for logical reasons

What Went Well

Charles River was proactive and very rapid in providing a cost estimate but they were not capable to locate a center within the group that would conduct the surgery necessary for the cannulation. In other words they provided the cost but not the location where surgery would have been conducted.

What Could Be Improved

Rat surgery for portal incannulation is a standard procedure for a pre-clinical CRO yet they could not find a location within the group that would conduct this.

Lessons Learned from the Experience

There is no guarantee that even a large and specialized CRO is capable of conducting standard activities if these are not currently ongoing when the request is made.
