Service Description

Charles River was contracted to perform a Tox Study to determine dose levels for a following study. They were to perform all the dosing, cage side and clinical monitoring during the 7 weeks and clinical pathology pre-dose. They were also special assessments to perform such as glucose tolerance tests, tissue biopsy collection following take-down (but no tissue analysis), and other terminal procedures such as histopathology.

What Went Well

They did a good job detailing the scope of the work and providing pricing based on line item. They also did a good job assuring us that pre-dose monitoring of the animals to get baseline readings would be covered. Work was performed as stated in the agreement - samples were clearly labeled for return to sponsor and the business managers were easy to work with.

What Could Be Improved

There were not a lot of cons to the work to note. The study was fairly straightforward so the work performed was done as expected. I would say the only thing negative was there ability to work with a compound out of the ordinary was difficult for them, and details on handling the compound needed to be spelled out completely.

Lessons Learned from the Experience

Straightforward studies and necropsy work they handle very well, but dealing with new compounds was a bit challenging for them. I would use them in the future, but make sure they know how to handle the solutions they have not a lot of experience with.
